Module 1 — Judging AI Outputs and Systems

Look beyond polished AI outputs and determine whether they are actually trustworthy. The focus is on verification, evidence, authority, privacy, and the limits of generative AI.

Module 2 — Designing Instruction That Preserves Learning

Explore how AI can support instructional design without weakening the learning itself. Attention is given to clarifying goals, selecting appropriate instructional strategies, and preserving meaningful learning.

Module 3 — Evidence, Assessment, and Fair Response

Examine what student work can and cannot reveal, particularly when AI may be involved. Key topics include assessment design, evidence interpretation, disclosure, and fair responses when the evidence is uncertain.

Module 4 — Learner Variability, Access, and Productive Support

Consider how to support learner differences without lowering expectations or removing productive struggle. Emphasis is placed on identifying barriers, matching supports to evidence, and preserving learner agency.

Module 5 — Responsible Professional Workflows

Turn to everyday professional work and consider where AI adds value and where human judgment should remain central. The module also addresses efficiency, quality, verification, and responsible delegation.

Module 6 — From Classroom Judgment to Shared Responsibility

Shift from individual classroom decisions to broader organizational responsibility. Topics include governance, policy, vendor and data decisions, and the use of small, reversible pilots before scaling AI.

Who is this course for?

AI Judgment & Practice for K–12 Educators is designed for teachers, instructional leaders, administrators, and other education professionals who need to make thoughtful decisions about AI in their work. You do not need to be an AI expert or have a technical background.

Do I need prior experience with AI?

No. The course starts with the fundamentals needed to understand what generative AI can and cannot do, then moves quickly into practical educational decisions.

Is this a course about learning how to use ChatGPT?

Not really. You will work with generative AI, but the course is not built around mastering a particular tool. The emphasis is on developing the judgment needed to evaluate AI outputs, make instructional decisions, protect learning, and determine when AI should or should not be used.

What will I learn in the course?

The course moves from individual judgment to broader professional responsibility. You will examine how to evaluate AI outputs, design instruction that preserves learning, interpret assessment evidence, support learner variability, build responsible professional workflows, and make sound decisions about AI implementation.

Is the course mainly theoretical or practical?
